St Gregorys Bedale

Civic Service 2016

On the 7th February a Civic Service was held in St. Gregory's church, attended by members of Bedale Town Council and other community leaders along with the people of the town.  This was the first such service in approximately ten years, and we would like to thank all those who joined us.  It was also a huge delight and privilege to welcome our guest speaker the new Archdeacon, the Venerable Beverley Mason, who delivered a fresh and inspiring sermon.  In her address, the Archdeacon encouraged us all to pray for Bedale starting this Ash Wednesday and to put our prayer into action.  She reminded us that nobody is too old or too young to be part of working towards the vision and each of us together can make a difference.  As we pray, she called us to watch out for the coincidences!  We are challenged to stop speaking our community down and start speaking it up; to pray and to work for that which we pray.  A strong Lenten challenge to each of us!

Following the service, a presentation was made to previous Mayors of Bedale in Chantry Hall.
